Kawai joined Cellcentric in December 2025.
Kawai is a senior consultant haematologist with over a decade of experience in leadership roles in clinical practice and research. He qualified as a medical doctor in 2007 from University College London and holds a BSc degree in Psychology.
He is a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, having also served as pathology lead at North Kent Pathology Services. Additionally, he has held leadership roles, including head of department at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust.
He has served as clinical trial lead, principal, and co-Investigator on multiple interventional and observational trials, including EPIC, Myeloma XI/XII, and REMODL-A, with expertise in protocol design, IRB approvals, and GCP compliance. As a result, he has contributed to national and international studies on rare diseases, myeloproliferative disorders, CLL, and myeloma. His research portfolio spans real-world evidence generation, HTA submissions, and digital innovation programmes in patient care. In the past, he has served as an advisor to AstraZeneca, GSK, and Kite.
Prior to joining CellCentric, Kawai held a senior medical advisory position within medical affairs for Johnson and Johnson on their haemato-oncology brands and early products, serving also as medical monitor for their late phase trials. He has helped develop and shaped their launches for Darzalex, Imbruvica and Carvykti. He continues to publish medical articles in his spare time, with a dozen to date.
